Courts may keep official records about cases in paper or electronic format. There are three ways to look at court records: Go to the courthouse and ask to look at paper records. Go to the courthouse and look at electronic court records. If your court offers it, look at electronic records over the internet. This is called “remote access.”

California Rules of Court, rule 2.400 (a) states that all papers in the court files may be inspected by the public in the office of the clerk. Rule 2.550 (a) says that unless confidential or sealed by law, all court records are presumed open.

The Records Department in the Juvenile Courthouse in Oxnard maintains Juvenile (delinquency and dependency), Probate, Guardianship, and Adoption cases. Records office hours are by appointment only Monday through Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., and Thursday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., excluding holidays.
